Grassley says Giardina’s hustle undercuts claims that agents don’t pick their cases; he also ties Giardina to Timothy Thibault, who left the bureau after a Hatch Act warning over a Lincoln Project retweet.

On the Musk track, former agent Kevin Gounaud — out of the bureau by February 2025 per LinkedIn — emailed that same month seeking a criminal investigation of Elon Musk. Musk was then a special government employee running DOGE. The complaint: Musk used X (Twitter), a company he controls, to tell federal staff to list five things they did at work — allegedly official messaging on a monetized private platform, “conceptually similar” to Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Grassley mocked the theory on X: open a criminal case because Musk asked bureaucrats to report five weekly tasks, while Iowans “work from sunup to sundown.”

Giardina was fired by Patel in August over political-weaponization accusations, Fox notes. The FBI did not comment to Fox News Digital.
