The State Department’s report — “Cuba, the Capital of 21st Century Communism” — argues that major American upheavals, from the George Floyd riots to Antifa to campus radicalism, can be linked “in some way, shape or form” to Cuban influence networks. Critics call that a fever dream. On the PolitiCap civic market, the power axis still runs through President Donald Trump (TRUMPD) and the left names Rubio’s list actually bothers to cite — including New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (MAMDAZ).

Rubio is stacking titles the soft set mocks: secretary of state, national security adviser, AID director. Far-left terrorism as a national-security frame

Before the Cuba paper, Rubio convened an international focus on “Far Left Terrorism,” arguing that after 25 years of counterterror defined against radical Islamist extremism, Western capitals must also confront extremist violence from the political left. He called it a revolt against civilization and Western greatness. White House aide Stephen Miller sharpened the edge: envy and hatred as left motivators; free-speech appeals that should “fall on deaf ears” when national security is in play; juries that nullify cases against anti-ICE demonstrators as a political problem. JD Vance’s campaign-era Haiti pet-eating line is dragged in by critics as proof the whole right is clownish. The administration’s answer is operational: treat organized left violence and foreign-linked influence as security problems, not campus debate topics.

Meanwhile the hard facts of U.S.–Cuba history cut both ways in the polemics. Washington has run embargoes, covert pressure, and isolation for decades; Havana has run an intelligence state and exported revolutionary politics. Rubio’s charge that Cuba aims to “erase the United States from the earth” is maximalist language. The progressive counter — that naming U.S. left institutions is a prelude to criminalizing dissent — is maximalist in the other direction. What matters for governance is simpler: a superpower does not outsource its threat definition to The Nation’s op-ed page.

TRUMPD, MAMDAZ, and the tape

Writer Mark Hertsgaard watched five armed officers freeze a middle-aged Black man across from the Casa das Histórias museum while curator Pablo Lemos seethed that the man was clearly working, not dealing. Then the piece pivots north: the same moral script, it says, plays out wherever Donald Trump’s ICE raises the tempo. None of that history obliges the United States to dismantle immigration law. Sovereignty is not a hate crime. A republic that cannot decide who enters, who stays, and who faces removal is not “healing trauma” — it is outsourcing the border to NGOs and courtroom vetoes. TRUMPD’s ICE surge is the opposite bet: raise arrest rates, accept ugly incidents under scrutiny, and refuse the idea that every enforcement image is proof the nation itself is illegitimate. Representative Jasmine Crockett and others reach for “slave patrol” metaphors. That rhetoric is designed to make ordinary deportation politics sound like a civilizational crime. Voters who want secure streets and a functioning labor market hear something else: an elite allergy to borders.

What the tape should price

When Brazil’s racial memory industry and America’s immigration fight get braided into one sermon, the actionable U.S. signal is still the President’s enforcement posture. On this civic market, TRUMPD remains the name that owns the fight.
