Rucphen went first. On 20 May, Wesley Tack-van Hoof was sworn in as wethouder for the PVV in a college with the Rucphense Volkspartij and the CDA. Next to him sat Suzanne Breedveld-de Ruiter, the local CDA alderman who has been in that town’s politics since 2006. Bontenbal called the arrangement a bad idea and then recited the party constitution: local factions decide. Wilders treated it as a milestone, which is what you do when your party finally gets a key to a town hall after years of being the thing Christian Democrats warn children about. Tack’s portfolio includes housing and asylum. The national PVV programme wants to stop mass immigration. The Rucphen coalition text says the municipality will keep doing its legal housing task. That is not a contradiction if your job is to win a majority in a Brabant village. It is a contradiction if your job is to look Bontenbal in the eye and claim the cordon still means something.

Pekela followed. The Pekelder PVV won the local vote, then built a college with the SP and the CDA. The local list made a point of not being Wilders-on-the-poster. CDA people on the ground said the national objections were known and not decisive. Bontenbal was not in favour. He also did not stop it. Decentralised parties are a wonderful invention when you need to denounce radical right in The Hague and then share a coalitieakkoord in Groningen. The constituents who marked a CDA box in March did not get a footnote that said “except when the seats do not add up.”

Tiel almost handed Forum the gavel

Tiel was the near miss that makes the pattern impossible to shrug off as two rural accidents. PRO — the local PvdA/GroenLinks merger — D66 and CDA talked their way toward a college. The VVD and the local Partij van de Burgers would not play. The only other party left in the council was Forum voor Democratie. Forum would not even get an alderman; it would only supply the votes. That would still have been the first time Lidewij de Vos’s party had a hand on a municipal majority. Last week the talks collapsed because D66 would not sit in a coalition that included Forum. The formation is back at the start. Tiel remains one of the last towns without a college. Almost is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Almost is also a price.

Bontenbal’s national line is not a mystery. He says PVV and FvD lack a democratic ethos and a serious relationship with the rule of law. That is a serious charge, which is why it is so entertaining to watch CDA aldermen treat it as optional homework. If the problem is the Rechtsstaat, it does not expire at the town sign. If the problem is arithmetic, then the national exclusion was always a costume. The accountability signal on this tape is blunt: either the CDA means the cordon, or the CDA means the college. It cannot mean both every Monday.

Why the civic market marks the split

PolitiCap is a civic market game, not a municipal formation consultancy and not a casino. Index-listed officeholders carry a ticker symbol, a simulated live quote, and a Politi Market Cap built from closed-loop credits — dibs (virtual DutchBud credits), not cash-out to a bank. When the same party preaches a firewall in the Kamer and then staples PVV and almost-Forum into local majorities, crowd attention does not average the two paragraphs. It prices the hypocrisy. The wider board still runs toward the dual IPO calendar around 11.11.2026. Dutch names are not extras on that tape. They are the home-market test of whether a public office promise survives contact with a hung council. New players still land a 1 000 dibs welcome; those play credits stay inside the economy while CDA chapters decide whether “no PVV, no FvD” is a principle or a bargaining chip. Every voter deserves a market. They also deserve to see when a cordon is being used as a coaster.

Pin BONTEH for the national line. Pin TACKW and BREEDS for the Rucphen college that already happened. Pin WILDERS for the party that finally got an alderman. Pin VOSL for the Forum brand that Tiel almost needed and D66 still would not touch. Watch whether the next unfinished municipality copies Pekela or copies the Tiel crash.
